Spirit #7. Kyle Baker writes and draws one of the stories in this special issue.
Heroes for Hire #11
Gold Digger #86, GD Sourcebook #6, GD Peebo Tales Summer Fun Special #2. Story and art by Fred Perry.

News from Heroes Con and Wizard World Philly: You know already about Dwayne McDuffie taking over JLofA… Marvel announced a new House of M mini-series starring Luke Cage and an Avengers team unlike any you’ve seen before in that they all have their 70’s looks (because it’s, y’know, set in the 70’s). It’ll come out in November… The Denys Cowan-illustrated Question series will get a trade paperback this fall… DC executive editor Dan Didio said Firestorm was going to join a team soon… Triathalon will join the cast of Avengers: The Initiative soon, but the future does not look bright for Gauntlet… DC veep Bob Wayne said there was no truth to the rumor that Welcome to Tranquility was getting cancelled.

The verdict on Tim Story’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer: $57.4 million on opening weekend despite horrible reviews. It’s reached the point where I’m not even sure if I wanna see this… In a tangential story, it appears Jessica Alba is greatly at odds with her Latina heritage.

At ECBACC there was a premiere of an animated film called The Adventures of Teddy P. Brains. It’s basically a science whiz kid and his faithful sidekick learning about stuff as they fly around in a spaceship. I saw it – it’s definitely one that’s strictly for the kiddies, if you know what I mean, but the computer animation is pleasant and the emphasis is on learning as something that’s fun to do, so hopefully the guys who made this will go somewhere with it.

New article about Martha Washington Dies.

More artwork from Kyle Baker’s Special Forces.

Fat Momma from Who Wants to Be a Superhero? is getting an action figure!

I actually just did a video interview with Marc Bernardin. I hope to have the Highwaymen part of up beginning of next week (if not sooner).

To Rich Watson:

Personally, I don’t know what’s up with the critics concerning FF2. Either they:

1. Resent FF1’s success and really have it in for Tim Story. Or

2. Hate purely fun films. (Critics tend to flock toward that cultish, “grim ‘n’ gritty” fare.

However, if you enjoy classic Fantastic Four comics, you’ll enjoy this movie. A quick browse through comic forums shows that fans really warmed up to this sequel, especially because of the spot-on portrayal of the Silver Surfer.

In short, don’t let the bitter, cynical reviews dissuade you from seeing a truly fun superhero adventure in FF2.

Yeah, I think I may wind up going to see a matinee showing or something like that. I’ve read just about all of the spoilers, so I have a fairly good idea of what happens, but seeing as how this is the Silver Surfer and Galactus, I had hoped for a whole lot more.
