The big news this week comes out of Atlanta. Comics artist and illustrator Joseph Wheeler III has put together a new black comics/pop culture convention. Dubbed Onyx Con, it’ll be held August 15 at the South West Arts Center in Atlanta, preceded by a networking conference August 14. More information can be found at Wheeler’s site. Atlanta is a good town for a black comics con, and having met Joe on several occasions at ECBACC, I can attest that he has the energy and exuberance to pull this off. More on this event as it develops.

Dan Didio confirms that DC has no plans to incorporate President Obama into the DCU at this time, which is not surprising given DC’s history, but given the fact that the Spider-Man/Obama comic has sold like gangbusters, and that Obamamania has yet to abate, AND that Marvel continues to kick DC’s ass sales-wise, one has to question the wisdom of this decision.
