Captain Marvel Movie No More

Well, that’s that. Over on his blog, John August reveals that the planned Captain Marvel movie, Shazam, is dead. Done. Gone. Over:
By “dead,” I mean that it won’t be happening. I don’t think it’s on the studio’s radar at all. It may come back in another incarnation, with another writer, but I can say with considerable certainty that it won’t be the version I developed.
There’s a lot more info over on August’s blog. I can’t help but wonder, though, if some enterprising adult producer might be able to do a Captain Marvel adaptation of their own. Oh wait, DC already did that:

Are you kidding me? I was actually looking forward to this movie when I read it was in production. I have to admit though, it must be tough to modernize Captain Marvel.

So comic books are what hollywood wants for movies, but they don’t want them to be comics basically? I’m sure the dark version of Shazam open with Black Adam robbing a mob bank. and then he goes even further to get the mob to pay him to kill Captain Marvel right. thats good right.

IF they were going to do a Captain Marvel flick, the neatest route in my opinion might be doing a 40’s noir rendition. But since that’s not happening anyway, I think it makes more sense to salvage a movie title like Superman, before throwing money at a new character.

@Jrrd – Looks like in the CBC episode “Why Is Wolverine So Popular? – Audience Questions for 1/22/09″, Alex agreed with me. I’m flattered!
