Got a couple Obama papes up in our recently resurrected wallpapers section — art by J. Scott Campbell (from the cover of IDW’s Presidential Material), logo by Sender.

And you thought J. Scott Campbell could only draw comic babes…
I wish I could say I was the one who yelled, “Is Tim Gunn Gonna Have To Choke A B*tch?!?” but credit where credit’s due it was Dylan. Still, as badly we wished for Kenley’s so well-deserved comeuppance, it has yet to come, and perhaps never will… Tim Gunn, in addition to his many other classy attributes, apparently has the patience of a saint as well. Not too surprising, but I can’t believe she never got the Heidi Klum smackdown she was begging for either.
While this season of Project Runway clearly had any number of people to hate on (Kenley!!! Keith!! Daniel!) it lacked any easy or early favorites. This isn’t a problem limited to PR of course. Lately I find myself watching shows and half the season will go by without me even knowing or fully caring who everyone is, and maybe by the time there’s half a dozen contestants I’ll hopefully have someone to root for.
Early on I picked Korto as someone I might like to win, and even now I want her to. I think the only thing I ever really disliked about her were her horrid pants with fins. However, Korto never made me love her the way Jerrell did. I admit in the beginning I dismissed him as a wannabe snarker, and was probably too busy hoping for Terri to make it to appreciate him. But Jerrell grew on me and more and more I found myself looking forward to his quips, quirks and… even his baffling array of “Men On Film”-worthy hats.
With only four contestants left I think the whole world was probably hoping Kenley would go home, but in hindsight it should have been a no-brainer to guess that the producers would keep all four around for one more episode.
But something strange happened for me after the designers went home. After seeing everybody’s collections, I suddenly realized that Jerrell had probably gone as far as he was going to go, or deserved to go really. This wasn’t exactly like Season 3, when we all loved Michael Knight above everyone else all season long, only to have him come back with a disappointing collection. That was kind of crushing. With Jerrell I somehow wasn’t surprised that his collection was a mess. (After all, the judges — or should I say editors — had foreshadowed it often enough). I felt it was over for Jerrell, as it should be, and the final bride/bridesmaid challenge didn’t change my mind, or the judges it seems.
So, in the end I’m rooting for Korto, or Leanne. And that’s fine. I’ll be holding my breath along with the rest of the viewing public as we all think the same thing: “Please god, anyone but Kenley…”
Midtown wanted to put something up in the stores to hype pre-orders for Watchmen Movie tie-in merchandise: the action figures, busts, props & replicas, plus mention all the books, etc. Honestly some of this stuff, like the busts, look pretty cool but I didn’t think blowing up DC Direct’s promo page from Previews was going to be very exciting, so I made a new poster from scratch. It’s headed to the printers and should go up in both stores soon. Then I have to make a simpler “civilian-friendly” version just hyping the book and maybe showing a figure to go in the window facing 7th Ave…
Thanks to DC for coming through with the art assets! :)
Via the Orlando Sentinel: “What’s new with the caped crusader, Dwight Howard? Must be the shoes. Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, who won the all-star dunk contest last season wearing a Superman outfit, has officially aligned with his alter ego in a working relationship with the comic-book trademark. He says he will wear the Superman emblem on the back of his basketball shoes in games, with more marketing tie-ins to come.”
Just walking to lunch and I saw graphitti style Barack Obama Superman & John McCain Lex Luthor (click to enlarge):

Actually I’m pretty sure McCain isn’t Luthor (although I’m not sure who he is supposed to be), it just seemed that way when I first saw Super Obama up above him…
Personally I think Milo Ventimiglia does a pretty good job of playing Peter’s two sides convincingly — but last night whenever I watched him morph into his evil/future self and back, all I could think of was Matt Engarde, the Ashton Kutcher-like villain from Phoenix Wright: Justice For All.
The only thing that would make it more perfect would be if Hero Peter still had the Season 1 haircut hanging over his eye! and if the Future Peter would swish some Courvoisier around in a cognac glass lol. (This is my ghetto animated GIF version — click here for the Youtube version)
Speaking of Phoenix Wright, the Del Rey manga is coming out next month! Not sure which I’m looking forward to more, that or Heroes…
With Manga Recon’s new home up & running, I’ve started a similar rebuild of The Bruce Timm Gallery. And tonight during my nightly re-uploading I came across a couple cartoons by Timm imagining the death of Batman:

Harley Quinn

Poison Ivy
Personally I lost track of what’s going on with DC’s current Batman RIP crossover. At one point I think Tim Drake had been looking for Batman for 3 months or something (in Robin) but Batman hadn’t even gone missing yet in his own book, I suppose because it was running late. On top of that, the Batman RIP trade dress on Detective never fully convinced me that what Paul Dini was doing was indeed part of Morrison’s larger story or not. I wonder if Bruce (Timm, that is) knows his friend Dini cut out Catwoman’s heart…
Viz’s Vagabond VIZBIG Edition Vol 1 GN is currently the #1 vote-getter over on Manga Recon’s New Release List/Poll (on the MR homepage sidebar), so I thought I’d point out that Viz has a preview here

Ironically for a “BIG” edition, the preview pages aren’t are a bit on the small size and their flash preview player loads a bit slow — but if you aren’t familiar with Takehiko Inoue’s gorgeous art it’s still worth checking out!
I’m proud to announce that Manga Recon has a new home here on PCS.
Kate and the rest of the MR crew have steadily built Manga Recon into one of the must-read manga-related blogs, and we realized it was way past time they had their own place to shine. The new MR site lets fans easily find all the latest Manga Recon reviews & features (as well as archives for older stuff), without having to wade through any superhero stuff.
Additionally, we’re launching with a couple other cool new features:
- The Manga Recon New Release List & Poll — the complete list of new manga releases every week — in poll form, so you can note/vote for the books you’re going to pick up that week and compare with fellow fans
- Special iPhone layout — hip manga fans browsing the site via their iPhone will get a special site layout streamlined for iPhones (although you can toggle to the normal view with the links in the footer)
- A Facebook-style Wall and more…
That’s just a few of things we’ve got in store — once the crew gets settled you should see a lot more cool stuff coming out of the all-new Manga Recon. Check it out and leave some feedback in the comments or on the Wall!
