It’s Monday so you know wha that means — Heroes is on tonight! Not sure *how* they’re going to top last week’s “Days of Future Past” dystopian revelations, but with only three episodes to go til the season finale, it’s probably safe to bet they will!
Last week’s Entertainment Weekly had five different covers featuring the cast of Heroes. Besides making a nifty gatefold-type image when put together, EW says the covers contain clues to some of the secrets coming up in the remaining episodes. So check them out and post your findings.
Less than a month after the release of the first photo featuring Iron Man’s original gray Mark I armor, Entertainment Weekly gives us our first look at what appears to be the final red & gold armor that will also be featured in the upcoming film. Effects wizard Stan Winston is credited with its construction, and clearly draws influence from recent Iron Man comic artist Adi Granov, who provided conceptual designs for the film.
MELBOURNE, Fla. — A Brevard County doctor dressed up in a Captain America outfit was arrested with a burrito in his tights. Everything was fine until, witnesses said, Captain America started getting too forward with a burrito he kept tucked inside his blue tights, a burrito that ultimately landed him in jail.
On Saturday night, when a costume party full of medical professionals stopped at On Tap Cafe, police said Doctor Raymond Adamcik, 54, had a burrito stuffed below the waistband of his costume and was asking women if they want to touch it. When one refused, he allegedly took out the burrito and groped her.
The woman called police and, when they arrived, the officers wrote in their report “there were so many cartoon characters in the bar at the time, all Captain America’s were asked to go outside for a possible identification.”
In a case of life imitating art, scientists appear to have discovered a new mineral that matches the chemical composition used to describe kryptonite. When researchers from the mining group Rio Tinto failed to identify the mineral, mineralogist Dr. Chris Stanley was brought in, and subsequently discovered the connection between it and Superman’s weakness:
“Towards the end of my research I searched the web using the mineral’s chemical formula – sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide – and was amazed to discover that same scientific name, written on a case of rock containing kryptonite stolen by Lex Luthor from a museum in the film Superman Returns.
“The new mineral does not contain fluorine (which it does in the film) and is white rather than green but, in all other respects, the chemistry matches that for the rock containing kryptonite.”
Unfortunately, the newly discovered mineral can’t be called “kryptonite” since it has nothing to do with the pre-existing element on the Periodic Table, krypton. Instead, it will formally be known as “Jadarite”, deriving its name from Jadar, the city where the mine it was discovered is located.
Coming from someone an active comic reader who got lost and kind of gave up trying to keep up with DC amidst Infinite Crisis and then One Year Later, I’m not sure Countdown is the book with which I would be trying to woo new readers. At any rate…

According to Variety, actor Laurence Fishburne has signed on to voice the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four sequel, set for release on June 15th. There had been speculation that Fishburne would be voicing the planet-eating villain Galactus, but there’s still no decision on whether or not that character will even speak. Furthermore, Ain’t It Cool News has even posted a rumor claiming Galactus may appear as nothing more than a storm cloud. Cheap and unimaginative? This is 20th Century Fox we’re talking about.
In a recent interview with Daniel Robert Epstein, Simon Pegg spoke about his interest in playing Rorschach in the upcoming Watchmen film:
Daniel Robert Epstein: I read that you turned down the role of Rorschach in
Watchmen because it would become too “Simon Pegg IS Rorschach.”
Simon Pegg: That is just so not true. I don’t even know what that means. I
floated that I’d like to play Rorschach because I think he’s a great
character. Also I’m ginger and funny looking. I think he’ll be fun to play.
It’s funny when you read those things because they get put out there as
fact. On the IMDB my agent keep taking off The Triviata as one of our
projects. That was a sitcom that Nick and I were working on about three
years ago. We shelved it because things really took off with the movies.
Someone keeps putting it back on there and it’s like, “No, I’m not doing it
anymore.” But the reason that is, is because some tabloid paper in the UK
broke it as if I said we were doing it but that just wasn’t true. It seems
like an odd story to make up.
DRE: But you didn’t turn down Rorschach flat.
Pegg: No, I was never offered it. I think when it was in the hands of Paul
Greengrass I had a better chance at maybe getting a casting because I know
Paul and would have put my case across. But now that it is with [300
director] Zack Snyder, he’s going to have his own choices, but I think he’d
be a fun guy to work with.
SuperheroHype gives fans their first look at the original gray armor appearing in the new Iron Man film currently in production.
I have to say, I like how this is shaping up. The casting of Robert Downey Jr. caught me off guard at first, but I’ve always thought he had the talent and charisma to pull off the character. Seeing how faithfully they’ve adapted the classic gray armor, I’m even more optimistic.
Boldly going where no other hot geek has gone before, Rosario Dawson confessed her love of all things Star Trek to Conan O’Brien this week. And here all this time you thought Star Wars was cooler.
