Blankman ranks higher than Black Panther.
Meteor Man ranks higher than Luke Cage.
Way too much emphasis on TV and film.
But at least their number one choice is a decent one.
I mean, c’mon, you or I could make a better list than this without even thinking hard.

Ha, I thought the same thing.
And Spawn? And the Black Ranger? Seriously? :(

Black Ranger makes sense because of the popularity of Power Rangers. I know plenty of Black kids who can identify the character faster than many comic book heroes of any race.
Spawn made the list because of the initially astonishing sales of his comic, his unusual origin, and the his visibility in other media. My only gripes are the quality of the comic and the reason Todd McFarlane had Spawn scarred. (In Spin Magazine in 2000, Todd McFarlane said Spawn was “skinned” of his Blackness to not scare off a broad audience.)

Whomever did this list is a real idiot. The majority of these picks comes from movies and cartoons, not comic books, which is where most of them originated from. It is obvious that the writer of the piece does not do their proper research in this catagory, and also, are just trying to piss off a whole lot of people with this garbage list. Most of the info on the ones who are from comics (Blade, John Stewart Green Lantern, etc) is incomplete and a little uncorrect (ie: Luke Cage’s REAL name is CARL LUCAS - I guess the writer didn’t pick up the Essential Luke Cage vols 1 & 2 from their local comic store).
It is also obvious that this person did not even enter a thought of what characters are currently out there via comic, mini-comic, internet, etc. What the writer needs to do is go to AfriComics’s website, ECBACC’s website, Tim Jackson’s Pioneers of Color website, and also purchase Prof. Foster’s ‘Looking For A Face Like Mine’ to get a REAL sense of African-American heroes in the comic book world.
Finally, this writer should have divided up the choices into categories, instead of placing them in one ridiculous slot, and not putting in cartoon characters just because an African American actor did the voice! Such disrespect!
