The first image of Angelina Jolie from the upcoming film ‘A Mighty Heart’ was released yesterday on USA Today’s website, featuring Jolie as Mariane Pearl, the wife of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and subsequently executed by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002. Given the involvement of Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B, Jolie’s casting may not be so surprising. What is surprising, however, is the fact that Mariane Pearl is a woman of mixed racial heritage, and filmmakers have clearly had to drastically change Jolie’s appearance to match that of the real-life Mrs. Pearl. I guess Thandie Newton was unavailable.
