And I Saw a Beast Coming Out of the Sea.

Posted by: Adan Jimenez on July 20, 2007 at 2:05 pm

Wednesday morning, I was awoken by sounds that I was certain signalled the end of the world. It turned out it was just a rainstorm, but holy crap! That thunder scared the beejeezus out of me. Regardless, now I was awake a full hour before I was supposed to be and couldn’t get back to sleep (as the world was obviously ending).

The rain died down and the promised Endtimes that they heralded did not come, so I got ready for work. Unfortunately, the rains had flooded the subways and I had to walk across Queens to find an elevated track that would take me into Manhattan. Luckily, I was only a half-hour late (a co-worker of mine who lives in Jamaica was two hours late, as he had some problems with not being able to procure five dollars in change for the express bus).

Safely ensconced in my work environment, all was well until about 5:30pm, when the firmament exploded and dragons were released from underground. Well, okay, no not really. A steam pipe and a transformer (they really are more than meets the eye!) exploded on 41st and Lexington. I work very near there and watched the explosion live. So that was pretty scary. As me and my co-workers were looking online for information on this explosion, I found out that there had been a tornado on Long Island earlier in the day. A tornado.

I wasn’t even going to write this because I was sure that all signs pointed to the end of the world, but here we are, two days later, and all’s well.

Though Batman #666 comes out next Wednesday, so perhaps this week was just a preview.

P.S. The post title is a quote from, predictably, the Book of Revelations. 13:1, to be exact.
