First off, I am not saying We Are Heroes are the worst dance crew ever on ABDC, or that they didn’t deserve to win Season 4 as they did, beating out Latin sensations Afro-Borike last Sunday. I’m not even saying I don’t like We Are Heroes, because I do. What I am saying is simply this:

Season 4 was the WORST ABDC EVER.

From the start, these crews just seemed a lot weaker than previous seasons. And they didn’t get much better as it went on! They didn’t have good overall performances til midway through — like Bollywood or the trampoline — when half the crews already gone.

Massive Monkees were probably my favorite crew throughout, and they were mostly just, consistently decent. That’s not enough to stand out fellas — especially when people are comparing you to Super Cr3w or Jabbawockeez (who will likely never be topped, no matter how long this show goes on).

And if the audience weren’t trying to see b-boys win it again, you know the producers were hoping for something different. Which is why we we had the crews we had. Some industry stereotype-fighting, big girls? “Hick hoppers”?? Kill me now if either of them won. I rather a crew like Vogue Evolution win — just not them specifically. Homegirl ended every routine with the exact same spin and fall move. And they had one of the few moments that I really remember — which was them doing like, the least ferocious tiger claws ever! That was hilarious.

At least this season brought us Afro-Borike. Anyone who knows me will be completely surprised by me saying this, but I liked them and I actually thought they should win over We Are Heroes. Yes, you heard right — Jon thought the Latinos should beat the all-female pop & lockers led by the Japanese girl!

We Are Heroes had some good performances near the end. But they were generally not super clean like I would really expect from some poppers & lockers who make it on the show.

Afro-Borike was inconsistent, too. Perhaps wildly so. But they really brought something new to the show, and when they were on they were on. None of these other crews has ever had the guys swinging their women around like that, and just being so in tune with their partners. It’s sexy. And tell me you they didn’t make their mark when they jumped off the trampoline landed starddling their girls and grabbing them by their throats — it sounds like something that should get censored, but they worked it! You’re sure not gonna see that shit on Dancing With the Stars, and you’re not going to see any of these other crews doing anything like that.

That said, you know who was better than either Afro-Borike on We Are Heroes?

Beat Freaks. Fanny Pack. Kaba Modern. Obviously. Status Quo. Strikers All Stars. Fysh & Chicks. Probably even Break Sk8te and Dynamic Edition even. And, hopefully a whole bunch of crews to come in Season 5, which they’re already promoting.

Congratulations to We Are Heroes, but I think we’ll all be happier if we can just put ABDC Season 4 behind us. See you in January.

Gotta disagree with you on Afroborike. If they had won, I was quitting the show. We Are Heroes definitely had a performance here and there that wasn’t so great. But Afroborike had TWO that I thought were downright awful. And We Are Heroes were far better at adapting in certain challenges compared to Afroborike.

But I will agree that this was a boring season overall, and We Are Heroes don’t measure up against the previous winners, or even the runner-ups. Especially with Quest Crew arguably being the best of the crews who have won. So for things to go so far downhill this season, it really was sad. We couldn’t even care enough to do our weekly commentaries!

Afro’s (two?) lows might’ve been lower, but like I said, their highs were higher. And anyone who knows me know it pains me to say the Latinos were better than the all-female crew led by the Japanese girl!

But wait — I understand if you like Quest better Super Cr3w, but Jabbawockeez??
