There’s a story behind this, I promise. I’m a big fan of some of the 70’s and 80’s television composers. Specifically, Johny Douglass and Stu Phillips. There was a period about a year ago where I became OBSESSED with finding the score to the old 70’s Spider-Man Live Action show. You might wonder why, but if you listen to some of the composition, and you love hip-hop, you’ve been wanting some of those loops for years. Anyway, through a great deal of research, phone calls, e-mail, and patience, I found Stu Phillips, the composer of some of the Spider-Man work. ll as a ton of classic work from the 80’s.

I never did get that score. It’s buried in a vault somewhere between Marvel and Fox, but Stu Phillips was awesomely cool about getting me an .mp3 of the theme and reached out to keep in touch. If you’re into full orchestras and want to hear classic compositions from Battlestar Galactica, Galactica 1980, Knight Rider, Six Million Dollar Man, and more timelessly powerful 80’s scores, The Golden State Pops Orchestra (GSPO) is holding a concert celebrating the work of Mr. Phillips in an event called Halloween Fright Night 7 on October 24th.

You can find more information about the event here. I personally promise that if you’re a fan of classic orchestration, you won’t be disappointed! The old Battlestar Galactica theme alone makes this worth the trip.
